Who IS CTA:

Tim Whitney - CTA

Chief Technology Advisor

Tim Whitney is truly an expert advisor when it comes to Information Technology.  Combining 27 years of experience in Voice/Data/I.T Systems with a [can-do] "I can help" attitude has forged Tim into a rare breed of Technician, Engineer, Consultant, and trusted Advisor.  He started his journey in 1977 with the U.S.C.G. trouble-shooting teletypes and phone systems.  Tim realized early in his career the value of networking information – leading to 12 years of management service with AT&T.  Tim was the principal architect at AT&T FTS2000 for a PC based invoice retrieval system. This solution eliminated 250,000,000 pages of printed phone bills by storing them on 5.25” optical disks and saving AT&T several million dollars in the early 1990s.  After leaving AT&T, Tim has endeavored to work with/for small businesses – to help solve “technology gaps.”  Mr. Whitney is actively advising multiple companies in the local area, constantly striving to find/implement creative I.T. solutions, to help his clients improve their bottom-line.

CTA's ambition is to help the small-medium business Owner by shouldering responsibility for Information Technology.   Our philosophy is simple: "To meet or exceed our Client's Expectations."

Some CTA Client Solutions

Voice, Data and Information Technology

CTA – Off-Site:  An insurance company required a Client to store critical data files off-site.  Acronis was already being used for backup; however the image files were too large to transmit electronically.  In reviewing the requirement, it became clear that only “critical” data needed to be stored off-site.  This meant certain files/folders and backups of key databases would need to be sent electronically, thus greatly reducing the volume of data being transferred.  MozyPro is an online (off-site) backup/storage solution that was able to help to solve this issue at a very reasonable annual cost.

CTA – Disk-Disk:  A two Server environment were running out of gas supporting Exchange, Timberline, and File-sharing.  To help the Client resolve this issue we investigated their needs and determined that a three production server and one hot standby server configuration would provide them with the best configuration.  This was accomplished by utilizing Acronis TrueImage (disk-imaging) software to backup the existing servers, and then migrate the application data to the upgraded servers. After the migrations were completed, Acronis is also being used for full nightly “disk-to-disk” backups.  If one of the servers should fail – an image of that server can be restored to the standby server in minutes.

CTA – SPAM:  A Client was literally drowning in SPAM as their email server could no longer keep up.  Having people in the field around the world, they needed a solution to help them eliminate the SPAM and keep their critical email line of communications open for their 200+ email accounts.   A key part of the answer was MX Logic – an email defense solution.  Once implemented and fully functional, we were able to eliminate over 99% of the inbound SPAM and restore their email server to full service. Note:  This product was used to help several other CTA Clients virtually eliminate SPAM overnight.

CTA - Telephony:  Client recently needed to replace their old telephone system and they wanted to use VOIP.  After obtaining several quotes in the five digit range, they asked CTA to find a more economical solution that would also link several sites together.   The answer turned out to be TalkSwtich – a PBX phone system designed for small and multi-location businesses.  This solution is a great value with rich features, easy set-up, flexible growth, and sophisticated features to give small businesses customers the telephony features they need at a price the can afford.

CTA – WEB-AP:  A new business needed a solution for linking office and field communications for email, calendars, file-sharing, and task coordination on multiple projects.   The standard solution would have been Microsoft Exchange, however the Client wanted a web-based solution with access from virtually anywhere.  The answer was found using InfoStreet’s StreetSmart, an on-demand application (SaaS) thus allowing us to help the Client save both time and money while greatly improving productivity.

CTA – Retail-POS:  Client upgraded a (10+) workstation Point-Of-Sale (POS) software product and encountered problems randomly connecting more than a few workstations to their server at any given time.  After several days, the POS provider was unable to determine the cause of the problem and my client was losing sales.  Within one day, we determined there was a licensing problem with the 3rd party software the POS provider had recently implemented and never tested beyond a few workstations.

CTA – WiFi:  A housing development needed broadband internet to service their $750K homes. A local wireless broadband company needed to find/implement a solution in less than 1 month for under $10K or risk losing $20K incentive.  Erecting an antenna 100+ feet in the air would be virtually impossible – especially in 4 weeks or less.  With out-of-the-box thinking, engineered/managed a solution using a nearby tree line and a specific 110’ tree overlooking 90% of the community.  Complete solution was installed in 3 weeks for under $5K. Our help brought the WIFI provider a dozen new customers, the Developer/ Builders/Realtors can offer high-speed internet to home buyers and the solution it is virtually invisible.
